Any mood created by the combined touch of tune, voice and dance may be called music. Bangladesh has strong history of music especially folk music. In the present time, we find two types of music in our country, one is Bangladeshi music and another is western music. Bangladeshi songs come out automatically from the core of minds of rural people who are mostly illiterate or at best half literate. It is always on rural transmission. Bangladeshi music can touch the heart of the common people, giving them an enduring pleasure. Bangladeshi songs are composed on love, some are on separation. Culture, festival, natural beauty, river, rural life and riverine life are the major themes of Bahgladeshi songs.

Bhatiyali, Bhawaiya, Zari, Sari, Kobigan. Baul song, Murshidi, Marfati songs etc. are known as Bangladeshi song. Handmade instruments are used in Bangladesh music such as ektara, dotara, sitar, harmonium, flutes, etc. At present, our young generations are influenced by the western music. In western music, heavy instruments are used such as Guitar, Drums, keyboard, etc. In the western music, there is absence of the Bangladeshi feelings. The appeal of western music is lasting for a certain period whereas Bangladeshi music is keeping its appeal for long. Western music is for a particular age but Bangladeshi music is for the people of all ages.
